Even with snow on the ground, it’s not too early to be thinking about Summer. Here are the dates and cost for the major activities and events for high school students:

Day Camp Counselor Training — June 17 – 18

We’re planning on going away for an overnight of training and fun! If you are planning on being a Day Camp Counselor, you don’t want to miss out on the valuable information, team building, spiritual preparation and fun that Day Camp Training provides. Cost: to be determined

Day Camp — June 21 – 25

Being a Day Camp counselor is not only a great way to impact the lives of children for eternity, serve God in a creative way, and have loads of fun, but it is also an investment in your own life. You’ll be surprised by what you learn about yourself, life, and God in a week. Cost: $0

Lake Ann Senior High Camp — July 12 – 17

Join other high school students from 30 states and 13 different countries to experience Lake Ann Senior High Camp. Build lasting relationships with your cabin mates and hear eternally impacting messages from Ken Rudolph and Chuck Conrad. Cost: $399

Lake Ann Camp Fresh Start — July 12 – 17

For those just entering high school, Lake Ann has something special just for you. There is no better way to prepare for your freshmen year than by attending Fresh Start @ Lake Ann. Staying at Lake Ann’s TeePee Village, 3 days and 2 nights on the Pine River, unique challenges and experiences, motivating challenges from God’s Word, and so much more. Don’t miss your one opportunity to go to Fresh Start. Cost: $379

Wilderness 2010 — July 24 – 30

Do you need to take a break from your busy life, or do you need a challenge, or do you need to connect with God? There’s nothing like a week in the woods to accomplish all those things. Join us for a week of both physical and spiritual challenge in the wilderness of Algonquin Park, Canada. Cost: $300

Shepherd’s Ministry Trip — August 16 – 21

You might be a little nervous about considering a week-long trip to serve at a home for the mentally disabled, but once you get there, you will soon realize that the residents at Shepherd’s Home in Union Grove, Wisconsin, will have more of an impact on you, than you will on them. This is an opportunity that you won’t want to miss. Cost: $250

These are just the BIG events. We’re still planning on having BaseCamps and other smaller day activities throughout the summer. We hope you will be involved this summer with Higherground!

BaseCamps

  • Feb. 21 — Rolfes
  • Mar. 7 — Sheltons
  • Mar. 21 — Taylors

Help for High School Students

If you just read the list of activities and events for the summer of 2010 and added up the cost, you’re probably wondering how one student can afford to do all those things. Well, your wondering is not out of place. Many students miss out on activities and events because they can’t afford to go. Many students have to pay for all their own church activities. Some students can’t afford to go on any trips because of family job loss or other circumstances, which is why we could use your help. If you would be willing to sponsor or half-sponsor a teen to go on one of these trips, please let Pastor Don know. Every year, on every trip, there is always at least one teen who would like to participate, but can’t afford it. Perhaps in the summer of 2010 we won’t have that problem. (Gifts can be given anonymously if you prefer.)

Pulpit Committee Update

Update on Pastor Jenks

It is with mixed emotions that we announce that Pastor Jenks has declined our offer to come candidate at South Baptist Church. After a time of dedicated prayer, Pastor Jenks genuinely felt that God would have him stay at his current church and continue his ministry there. Pastor Jenks was very complimentary of our church and ministry, and was grateful for everyone’s kindness to him and his family.

While we’re sad that things did not work out with Pastor Jenks, we rejoice in knowing God’s will and trust that He will continue to lead us in our search. A member of the Pulpit Committee will address the congregation on Sunday morning, but if you have any questions, please contact any member of the Committee. Thank you for your continued prayer support.

Nathan Dunn, on behalf of the Pulpit Committee
