Music & Drama

"It is good to praise the LORD and make music to your name, O Most High…" (Psalm 92:1)

We take worship seriously here at South Baptist Church!  Worship is a part of our DNA….we were created to worship.  It is through a lifestyle of worshiping Christ that we find our greatest fulfillment in life.  In order to help Christ-followers of all ages move toward this goal, South Baptist seeks to cultivate a culture of worship through many different kinds of ministries.  Ministries such as choir, vocal & instrumental worship teams, Acting Up drama team, handbells, musical & drama productions, kids choir, kids chimes, worship services, congregational choir and special music are all designed to foster a passion for worship in the hearts of Christ followers!  Of course, all of these things require the extensive use of technologies available for use in our auditorium.  We have a growing Technical Team that provides the support for all of our events.  This includes audio, projection, lighting, video production, live web-streaming and disc duplication.

Music/Drama Opportunities at South:

Congregational Choir

Anyone can be a member of this, our largest “choir.” Blending great songs of worship from both the past and present, it is a privilege and thrill to join our hearts and voices together in praise to the Lord each Sunday!

Children’s Choir

This choir presents one or two fully dramatized musicals each year.  Rehearsal schedule is varied (for 1st–5th graders).

Kids Praise Night

This regularly scheduled Sunday night service(several per year)  is designed to provide kids with the opportunity to play their instrument or sing unto the Lord (for children in 1st–8th grades).

Kids Chimes Choir

Children learn the basics of ringing bells, reading music, and playing periodically in our services.  Rehearsals take place on Sunday afternoons during our adult Worship Choir rehearsal several weeks before playing (for children in 3-5 grades).

Jr. High & High School Students

Using a variety of instruments, our students enjoy an exciting worship experience at their gatherings on Wednesday nights.  Teens also lead in worship in our Sunday services through solos, Vocal Worship Team, drama and technical team.

Young Adults

Young adults, ages 18-30 have the opportunity to participate in music, drama or technical ministries each week in our Sunday worship services.  UNiTED is a unique gathering for young adults and takes place the first Thursday of each month.  This includes an exciting multi-media worship experience planned and led by young adults.

Worship Choir

This adult choir sings in our Sunday morning services during the school year and prepares one or two special productions throughout the year.  There is always room for new singers.

Special Guest Events

From time to time, guest artists or groups are scheduled to present a concert, or to be involved in our Sunday services.  These events give exposure to a variety of music ministries and are designed for encouraging our church family as well as outreach into our community.

Acting Up Drama Team

Through the use of comic and dramatic sketches, choric readings, and reader's theatre, our Drama Team endeavors to present the gospel and share biblical principles in a fresh and dynamic medium. Worship drama is presented regularly in our Sunday morning worship services.  Our major seasonal productions are presented on a rotating basis, including Easter Musical/Dramas, Dinner Theatre, Coffee House, and more. These involve a great deal of team effort and preparation including staging, set production, and costuming. These programs are presented as a tool for outreach into our community and as a means of encouragement for our own congregation.
